brand new glastonbury production duo speakman sound team up with frankie forman for the palliative psychedelic dance stylings of latest single warm. warm follows the breakneck success of debut single in flight which became a top viral track on spotify while being touted by key tastemakers including 6music’s lauren laverne, radio x’s john kennedy, soho radio’s eddie temple morris and radio 1’s huw stephens, monki and phil taggart. the latter commendations led to the brothers being offered a slot on the bbc introducing stage at glastonbury for a ram-packed homecoming. brothers todd and guy, the duo behind speakman sound, spent their childhood in the glastonbury area immersed in music through their father, a guitarist in psych-rock scene including bands such as hawkwind. growing into adolescence against a backdrop of rave culture in somerset shaped the psychedelic tinged future bass sound they create in their studio in north london today. warm is a sonic embrace, a trip into the uterine comforts of music. a rolling kick drum structures it, ostensibly four-on-the-floor, but with syncopated fibrillations, the sound of a heart skipping a beat. with frankie forman’s brilliant, mantra-like vocal and tobie tripp’s sweeping strings, warm reminds us of the comfort we find in music. enveloping in its beauty, it’s the latest majestic entry into speakman sound’s unique and beatific body of work. that the speakman brothers are producers in their own right should come as no surprise. having received a start-up grant for a studio in cricklewood, they have built an artistic hub from scratch and are surrounded by a creative coterie of young musicians and talented artists practicing across film and music in north london where they hold regular late-night jams and parties.

infinite density – the new album by the berlin based, cuban-american artist blush response – is a fantastical exploration into the depths of industrial and ebm techno in collaboration with techno frontman adam x’s infamous imprint, sonic groove. influenced by the progressive noise of autechre, front line assembly and skinny puppy the producer has previously released with aufnahme +wiedergabe and ant-zen, as well as getting his hands dirty with programming work for the industrial pioneers fear factory, rhys fulber as well as latin pop singer cristian castro. infinite destiny takes a firm grip on situationally influenced content, pulling every corner of berlin into its belly for a challenging and unique sound – a sound that’s able to maintain functionality whilst simultaneously exposing loose wires of wild flangers and disturbed sampling. these erratic waves are expressed through the productions infinite density, aum shinrikyo, survivor guilt and dead still air, showcasing the most alien meta-bodies of blush’s sound. as an appropriation on contemporary acidic sound, the sonic motions of serpentine and tryptamine delve into explorations within the acid genre. rhys fulber’s string contribution on painkiller initiates a whirlwind rhetoric of distortion. panic stricken, no solace and tessellate focus on strong industrial pads that carry the density of each track whilst infinite dread’s ebm back bone hits hard with heavy arpeggiation. crucial to its form, the album showcases new experimental sound that repurposes algorithms of today’s dancefloor dogma. blush response exposes these paradigms through mutated build-ups and drops. however, his innovative “modular synth heavy” sound design obscures the flow in a way that permeates the concrete arenas his productions are designed for – in true berlin style.

hot on the heels of the first two parts comes part three of hoshs stories from sa talaia series. the series takes tracks from his recently released album of the same name and releases them on his new fryhide label. first up are two collaborations with pig&dan. atlantis is not a fairy tale, a spine tingling tune with shifting melodies above rolling rubber beats. it s emotive and colourful and sets a nice mood to start off. the second brotherhood balearea is deep and elastic, with nice rubber beats and spraying synths bringing some real dynamism to the table. one of those tunes sven väth would drop at those special ibiza after parties. awakening of the birds a collaboration with karmon takes off right there and keeps you in that trance but gets more groovy with its inducing light footed drums, airy hi hats and skyward melodies all zoning you out. last of all, meeting mia lee is a beautifully melodic track that really moves you and strikes a resonant chord with your heart as the smooth and deep house vibes unfold. speaking of heart it features the heartbeat of hoshs unborn daughter. once again then, this is another richly rewarding ep from the one and only hosh.

first track poise i is a deep and dubbed out techno track with deft synths slowly shapeshifting and bringing sombreness to the quickened groove. it’s late night music to zone you out with sparse but rich detailing to keep your mind occupied and it gets ever-busier over the course of thirteen enthralling minutes. then poise ii is a 16 minute masterpiece that is watery and dubby. it has undulating synth currents and increasingly textured snares. building to a peak then pulling back, with occasional freaky vocal sounds and sci-fi motifs, it is a truly cinematic piece that closes out an ambitious ep.

to give end to his alter ego mariano marcial aka -deep mariano- gives us its latest album. a story filled with syncopated rhythms, elegant passages between techno and microhouse abstract sounds. this work completes in a collaboration with exequiel, artist of san pablo, and a rmx with a solid groove with futurist low funk bass of federico molinari.

fountain of chaos kicks off the inextinguishable fire label in style, purportedly transmitting from an undisclosed woodland location with a mission to bring you transcendental neo-pagan ritual music for the 21st century. primitive megalopolis definitely takes its cues from the likes of jon hassell with its rich, detailed sound bed of delicate pattering percussion, occasional flute breaths and slow, meditative rhythmic lurch. amaniyak tree flips the script with a fiery run of percussion that feels more like a latin carnival throwdown, all tumbling ethnic instrumentation strapped to a discoid propulsion. it s a record of two very excellent, very different halves

every once in a while a record comes along which is a little bit special, a record which stands the test of time, bringing the same reaction to the dancefloor now as it did all those years ago, and dont you want my love is one of those records. almost four decades after its original release in 1979, the record has become a favourite with the glitterbox crowds, creating a seminal moment at ministry of sound when david morales dropped it at the party in march 2017. now debbie jacobs timeless classic lands on glitterbox recordings for a special vinyl package including a re-edit courtesy of disco veteran dimitri from paris.

coming hot off his rather expansive cognitive dissonance 2x12inch for love notes, and also an ep for axetrax, tape_hiss herein continues his impressive run. on jacob s ladder, the artist pushes his emotionally wrought sound over cooking percussion and bubbling acid undertones. maspeth ave is quite honestly the nastiest bassline we have heard on a deep house track in some time, sure to cause spontaneous bass face in the listener. life as an echo uses soaring chords and synths to prove its point, and forests of my mind finishes the ep off with a pitch bending chord that pushes the track right along. yet another extremely cohesive, emotionally charged effort from this artist.

the second release on andras tongue-twisting label punp. corn opens with a minute of hard-panned stereo banjo a deep bassline close on its boots. dust strikes a more sombre note - the distant bleep of a doof lost in a cloud of red dirt and radioactive fallout. are those rave whistles or geiger counter clicks? seal the doors and take a landcruiser tempo tour of a contaminated atomic test site. high fructose samples from the frozen food isle. hot-music that’s still cold in the middle. all songs written and published by andrew wilson. recorded in melbourne, australia. art by art.

five years after the illustrious paranormal soul lp, techno derelict danny wolfers aka legowelt returns on clone with -legendary freaks in the trash of time-. a vivid collection of twelve genre-defying tracks: from late-night hermit house to memphis rap influenced slowjam electro, from amiga 1200 technorave to cosmic spaceweed trance, including the whole universe in between. all blended together in a mix of subdued sensuality and psychedelic splendour, this album is flavoured with legowelt s typical crunchy lo-fi sampler and synthesizer aesthetic. wolfers own hand-drawn sleeve artwork illustrates the album s mood without the need for much further promotional blurb... colourful stories embodying societal malaise and its dwellers - yet with a dash of aspiration. music for misfits, witches, dreamers, cyberpunks, outsiders, geeks, and freaks. legowelt s people.

the delsin re-issue arm turns its attention to lost trax. this ep features four cuts taken from two different eps, the saturnian system and lost trax 2 from 2006 and 2010 respectively. saturnian system opens the ep with some acid laced electro slickness. fluttering snares and spacey synths carry it away into the cosmos, then the sequel gets much busier. scurrying lines dart about in manic but funky fashion, with serene pads off setting the high energy drums. self destruct sequence then drops into an urgent, slippery electronic groove riddled with squelchy sounds and rubbery bass all perfectly orchestrated. last of all, birth is a nimble electronic house cut with plaintive synths and kinetic drums that wiggle and wriggling through the night sky. this is an ep stuffed with timeless sounds and is another essential reissue from delsin.

hybrid techno tracks full of tension on time to express number 30, presented by label founder peter van hoesen. the belgian producer takes up the opportunity to expand upon his previous work on the coast to coast ep. no longer exclusively restricted to straight 4/4 rhythms, van hoesen s music investigates hybrid, broken grooves infused with a clear sense of spatial sonic awareness. this is made clear with the first two tracks, towards manifestation and fox tactics. on the second half of the ep van hoesen launches two solid techno cuts, shifting from dense bassline work (concrete varition) to percussive, shuffling grooves (fox tactics). as with all previous time to express outings a specific i ching hexagram was chosen to accompany this release. hexagram #10 ( treading upon the tail of the tiger ) refers to advancement with care and ways of respectful progress. the title of the ep is a direct reference to the first line of this intriguing hexagram. nine at the beginning will be released on vinyl and digital formats on october 23rd 2017. a specially designed t-shirt will be made available at the same time, interpreting hexagram #10 through its design.

hot on the heels of the smash release from superlover, mother recordings welcome back simion to the label with his the rhythm ep. simion presents two cuts of upfront house music that are prime for the dancefloor. first up is title-track, the rhythm , a nod to the 90s chicago sound with jacking drums and a sensual female vocal. backed up by a funk-fuelled bassline and a lush piano breakdown that lead into a deep house groove. the b-side feeling good is true to its title. tight percussion, chopped vocals and a catchy synth line all come together in a fluttering climax. this one is sure to leave any dancefloor shaking.

valby003 sees louf return, fusing heavier club elements with sentimental synth work. ‘if i was’ is a pummelling drum track, laced with synths that rise and fall gently, providing a fleeting moment of warm autumnal euphoria.
on the flip side we have ‘outside my house’. robotic, vibrating vocals challenge its listener to question the levels of emotion that a technological being can possess. delicate, tender house music.

dokutoku records is here with its first release from label boss katie drover. scenario name is an elegant and moody number with a heart of jazz. the original has been artfully remixed by cesar merveille who has constructed an 11 and a half minute groover with twists and turns that will move the after hours.

rhode & brown are back on their motherlabel toy tonics! after last years breakbeat - tune st hippolyte and getting remixed by their buddies hodini and glenn astro, their new ep takes their sound further again. from diy-disco to dreamy house, whatever you like to call it.. the tracks have this joyful touch, that makes their sound so special. this time their production way was a little bit different: while spending holidays on the marvellous island of zanzibar they produced the raw versions of this ep. they set up their studio at a beach cabanne. with a monkey becoming their muse. they monkey came over every day to listen to their sounds. they became friends and called the monkey rosie and fed her with mangos. when back in europe the munich boys still were in a balearic mood. so they went to a house deep in the south of france to finish the music. the result were 4 tracks. three for this ep. and one track that they gave to the other munich based label public possession for their recent serie a compilation. which makes totally sense: public possession and toy tonics both have links to gomma records. its all a family thing. where great munich vibes incoming!

londons chocky joins the dessous recordings label and shares four tracks of sublime house music on steve bugs imprint. self knowledge is a deep, techy roller clocking it at nearly 10 mins plenty of space to expand into its full potential the groove grows ever more hypnotic and engaging as the track unfolds. next up is ‘a reefa - a non too subtle reference to a certain herb that might have inspired this loose yet highly funky deep house jam. casa de estrela changes the vibe up with a more direct and jacking track even though it would work at prime time, chockys feel for space and drama make sure the track will be heard in many diverse surrounding and sets this year.

new yorker anthony parasole provides three powerful, dancefloor productions for the third release onjoseph capriatis new label redimension. the exceptional opener ‘velocity wastes no time setting the theme of the record with its supremely-tight drum programming, jerky bassline and synth notes that spiral into space. ‘bang has similarly skipping percussion and a looped melody which reveals itself for a moment midway through the track before the pulse beats on. a killer, minimalist combination of drums, bass and the sample that the track takes its name from. finally, the restrained, warehouse feel and human touch to the rhythm of ‘hot zone again finds the berghain resident exploring the sweet spot between house and techno. his sonic voice between the two genres is founded on his wider influences, and the result carries a subtle funk, muscular beats and hint of nyc swagger. tried and tested by joseph capriati and sure to stay long in the bags of djs, parasoles fine productions have the hallmarks of an artist who knows exactly how to move a dancefloor himself. at once you both expect the unexpected and find that every progression or pad sweep arrives exactly when it was meant to.

“i’ve said it before, but dancehall and its influence on uk music has been a massive inspiration for me, going way back to hearing chris goldfinger on radio 1 playing music that was like nothing else i’d heard before. i love that fundamental rhythmic pattern, and i love how within the same world you can have some tunes that are built around the sweetest melodies and harmonies, and others that are built around super-tuff minimal drums and crazy squeeks and bleeps.
when it came time to build another ep for critical, i decided to link up with my good friend and long-time collaborator rider shafique, who has a much deeper knowledge of this music than me, and together create something that references both old and new dancehall, while still being playable in the kinds of sets i ve become known for. there’s no halftime and no chopped-up jungle breaks here - we wanted to make something really focussed and even disciplined - and hopefully we’ve succeeded.
big shouts to the vocal collaborators - super hyped to work with stush on a tune, irah came through with the righteous fire, and tiffanie malvo absolutely bodied her beat - but ultimate biggups have to go to rider. this wasn’t a project where i made the beats and rider voiced them - for pretty much every tune, we worked and reworked the riddims together. we’re both stoked on the results, and it seems like people in the dance feel the same way.” - sam binga

clergy returns for its 9th instalment with a club ready ep of serious weapons from label mainstay, and one half of works unit, reflec. the four track release opens with acid response , in which reflec has combined a tough rhythm section with a growling 303 to create a high energy roller guaranteed to keep the dance floor moving. continuing on this trend of heavy hitting rollers, osmosis is a drum track through and through, which incorporates dark and sweeping atmospherics into the groove true to reflec’s form.
the b side sees host to canyon, a peak time clergy anthem with heavy, driving drums complimented with a spacey and emotional pad on the breakdown. clergy 009 is rounded off by a broken edit of canyon which exchanges the driving kicks for a fragmented rhythmic style, a nod to the uk roots of reflec’s musical style.

after a 2 year + hiatus apartment records returns with its tenth release and itÆs first with american dance music producer, chase smith (previously of wt records / r zone / argot). typical of the labelÆs varied approach to styles, across its four tracks ôsending you some lungsö touches on everything from bruising, muscular techno, growling acid house, synth pop, rave and classic, early detroit techno. chaseÆs high end production techniques bring his diverse influences together in seemingly effortless fashion with all music aimed squarely at a heaving, sweaty dance floor.

next up on asking for trouble after selling out the album and re-pressing comes a four track remix ep for radioactive man’s luxury sky garden album. life-time friend of radioactive man and control tower partner dexorcist aka simon brown is first up to deliver his take on ‘sonic portal’ on the a side. his style has always been uncompromising and as a music lover and dj he s been a major influence on tenniswood’s style and taste for a long time. dexorcist turns in a detroit influenced banger which goes deep. ben pest then follows with his own take of the same track. a member of funk band pest, purveyor of wonky techno, music tech teacher and hardware enthusiast ben has also released on jerome hill’s don t’ label, i love acid and horror boogie to name a few. his take on ‘sonic portal’ is as genre bending and weighted as you’d expect. over on the b side pain struck stanley dumb remix ‘blast furnace’ - a fast and furious electro track which was released as a digital bonus to the album. they work it into a breakneck speed techno number. taste the amphetamine! completing the package biggabush (aka glyn bush) brings his dub influence to the mix. bush of rockers hi-fi connected with radioactive man during a mastering session asking to do the mix after hearing the record. the results are impressive and provide a welcome tempo and vibe change to the ep with its deep and dubby elements.

a kind of intimate scrapbook of the startling collaboration between the techno maestro and this long-standing musical collective based in bishkek, devoted to the roots music of kyrgyzstan. loose-leaved but balanced, lucid and intimate, it sets out from stunning a cappella and virtuosic komuz and kylak, mouth harp and traditional percussion: not field, but expert studio recordings, using marvellous vintage microphones, made over several days in berlin. further, a few of these are deftly treated by moritz, using reichian de-synced double-tracking, and discreet effects. also two ten-minute dubs: a deadly, signature berlin steppers, plus its version and an echoing, mystical drum session, recorded live on stage in bishkek. and a side-long, dream-like summation: the locomotive, oceanic, clangorous, dread facets. ravishing, rooted, searching music, beautifully presented.

2017 repress , londons dmk label provides a follow up to its debut release from kuba sojka with another strong release from stojche who delivers another quality ep of underground house/techno tracks on the square chapter ep.
